While I was in Jiwa Damai, I helped work on a project to modernize beekeeping in Bali. I created a couple videos for the project, check them out.

Not the greatest photo showing off this spider’s colors, but I like the long shadow in this shot.
So the title kind of gives it away, but I found these things on one of the coconut trees here. I was out for a nocturnal wander through the gardens and I thought I caught some movement on the one coconut tree. When I looked…
I guess I’m in a bit of a video mood recently, so here’s another post getting bumped to the front of the queue… As I mentioned when I posted the Weaver Ants post, I have been on the look out for them actually making a…
I have absolutely no clue if that is what this jumping spider is called… or even if it has a name – common or scientific – but I think after seeing it, you’ll agree that it is a fitting name. Those iridescent metallic green patches…
Just like in Madagascar, there are scorpions here too. I was honestly a little surprised by that… maybe because I tend to associate them more with desert climates, but there are a lot here.
There are tons of butterflies around here, but these ones are absolutely beautiful… the way the light catches off that turquoise part on their wings is stunning.

And final day for now… I’ll return to non-spider photos with my next post… but I am sure more spiders will be coming soon. There are just so many cool ones around here – including one that I saw only once and have been searching…
This first guy is an interesting one. It is almost like it s a cross between a crab spider and a jumping spider. Those incredibly long front legs complete with what appear to be hooks for holding prey are pretty impressive. Its body is also…
If the post title isn’t a hint, I’m going to do a couple straight days of the various jumping spiders I’ve been seeing. Apologies to those of you who don’t like spiders, but you should all probably have expected this at some point… This first…
A large hunstman spider on a beautiful staghorn fern.
I got plenty of opportunities to find scorpions in Madagascar… especially when we were doing the Spider Tortoise survey – I think I found maybe six or seven by just turning over dead logs.
I was hoping to find some cool and crazy looking insects while in Madagascar (ok – we did get to see some stick insects, but I didn’t have the good camera with me that day), but while praying mantis are always fun to find and…
