Video Week Day 1: Elephant Seals

Ok – as today’s post title indicates, I’m going to make this “Video Week” and get some of the videos I’ve been working on (or rather not working on for a long time) finished and shared. I might even sneak in an extra post or two this week to make it even better…

This first video if from my stop in Cambria, CA where there is a fairly large elephant seal rookery there that was established in 1992 and now is home to over 25,000 elephant seals every year. I visited in March which is when most of the pups have been weaned and the adult mothers leave to go start feeding again. There were still a very small number of adult females on the beach, and a few more adult males, but mostly it was young pups who were just getting ready to also head out. But as you’ll see, there was still plenty to see. Maybe someday I’ll visit when the peak of birthing and the adult males fighting happens, but March still seemed like a good time to visit.

Enjoy…
