Fish Breeding Nest

All the bird photos from the other day came from a place called Winding Waters Natural Area which is about 10 minutes away from where I’m staying (yes, that was part of the reason why I chose to stay where I did). At over 500 acres with almost 5 miles of trails, a lot of which run alongside the wetland, it is a place I’ve already visited a couple times and likely will make a regular stop (usually in the morning or evenings when things are little cooler).

Anyway, I am not sure exactly what species of fish this is – I assume some sort of cichlid – but I really liked how distinct and clean they keep their little breeding nests.

I’ve also seen Alligator Gars and Plecostomus, which were cool to see in the wild.
