Grand Tetons National Park (part 7): American White Pelicans

I think most people (myself included) typically associate pelicans with the ocean… but there is a thriving colony of American White Pelicans that live in Grand Tetons National Park. I was not aware of it before arriving at the park and when this huge white bird flew by, it took me a few seconds to realize it was a pelican!

Oh and that weird plate protruding from the top of its beak is only there in breeding adults.

    Great shots. You don’t realize how big they are until you see them next to a Brown Pelican. I first saw them in the Tetons but we get them in Florida too.
