I think most people (myself included) typically associate pelicans with the ocean… but there is a thriving colony of American White Pelicans that live in Grand Tetons National Park. I was not aware of it before arriving at the park and when this huge white bird flew by, it took me a few seconds to realize it was a pelican!
Oh and that weird plate protruding from the top of its beak is only there in breeding adults.

October 29, 2023 at 6:23pmGreat shots. You don’t realize how big they are until you see them next to a Brown Pelican. I first saw them in the Tetons but we get them in Florida too.
