Ring-necked Duck

I first stopped by this little pond where I found these Ring-necked Ducks on my initial drive to Yellowstone from Glacier. I pretty much got lucky again here as I actually spotted some Sandhill Cranes (more on them later) on the right side of the road, and then after stopping saw these ducks on the other side of the road. I went back a second time hoping to get more photos of both, but there were no cranes and the ring-necked ducks were being sleepy. Still, always fun to see new-to-me species…

Apparently these guys are named because of that reddish ring around their neck when they hold their heads up high.
