Hummingbirds

Alright – as promised, here is the really cool thing I found during my first hike in Palmer Lake, CO. After hiking up Chautauqua Mountain, I was down in Limbaugh Canyon returning back to my AirBNB. At one point the trail runs right along a stream and I stopped to take a little break and enjoy this little spot and splash some cold water on my face. As I stood there, a hummingbird buzzed right by my head and then after a minute it landed on a nest I hadn’t even noticed and started feeding its babies. I took some crappy video with my cell phone and made a decision to return with the real camera and get good photos and video. I visited several times over the course of the week and could tell that the little hummingbirds were just about ready to leave the nest… Enjoy!

There was just something almost magical about that spot and getting to witness such a beautiful natural event. The video really is the big reward, but some of these stills are nice too.

And just to give folks a “behind-the-scenes” look, here is a shot showing the area with my big camera setup to shoot these tiny little hummingbirds.

Anya, if you’re reading this, all I can say is that this was just another time when I wish you had been there with me.

<3 Love the sound of the creek too. I assume the empty nest means they took flight? Time to start heading back south for the winter!

Amazing! They are so fragile and their nest even more fragile! So enjoyable to watch.
