Yep – I did a little bait and switch there with the title. This is indeed a snake, so my apologies to any ophidiophobes out there… and I guess for those of you with a fear of snakes, it gets worse. These guys are among…
One of the species of butterfly fish we surveyed during the Blue Ventures expedition…
I know I haven’t much wanted to celebrate Christmas in the past few years (and this year is no different), but since all of my fellow volunteers on my Timor Leste expedition had asked me to take a group photo of them all holding dive…
I spotted this pair of mating sea turtles shortly after we started one morning of the cetacean surveys off the coast of Dili, Timor Leste. Our best guess is that these are Olive Ridley Sea Turtles.

I saw several ant mimic spiders while in Jiwa Damai. Unfortunately, I only got photos of these two with the very large mandibles. I’m not sure what function those over-sized mandibles serve, as they don’t really help them to look like ants in my opinion.…
Today I’ve got a photo that I did some more backscatter cleanup on, so hover your mouse over the photo to see the original and then move it off again to see the clean version. And also a video of me chasing a Peacock Mantis…
